I also wanted to share a few tips on mental health awareness month. As we know, October has been declared Mental Health Awareness Month with the objective of not only educating the public about mental health but also to reduce the stigma and discrimination that people with mental illness are often subjected to. I specifically want to focus on our work space since this is the place we spend most of our time. A recent survey found that work-related stress was the primary cause of mental health problems and illnesses for 1 in 3 adults. Employees carry the stress and anxiety of work home, where it can impact their personal lives and relationships. If you’re suffering from this illness or know someone who does, here are a few tips on how you can support someone or look after yourself:
1. Practice mindfulness
Recognise the signs of stress or anxiety building up. I found that by practising yoga helps to ease anxiety and depression.
2. Healthy snacks
It’s no surprise that a balanced nutrition can be a mood booster. Avoid foods with a high sugar intake as it can lead to an afternoon crash. Also, make sure that you get your 8 glasses of water every day. Be good to yourself.
3. Take a walk
If you have a standard lunch hour or afternoon break, set aside that time to get outside. 15 minutes of sun and light exercise can help you clear your mind. Morning/afternoon walks, runs or hikes with friends is also an amazing method I make use of.
4. Get the full 8 hours of sleep
The most stressful work days often follow nights of restlessness. Lack of sleep can have a detrimental effect on your productivity at work (in addition to negative impacts on your physical health). To ensure you’re working to your full potential, make sleep a priority.
5. Focus on relationships
Dedicate time to build a positive relationship with your family, friends and colleagues. Healthy relationships will allow you to share your thoughts and feelings more easily with those around you.
Once again, a big thanks to all of you who continue to support our little brand with a huge vision 🖤
Over to you – stay healthy, happy & hydrated, friends!
