KURO-Bo caught my attention from day one – Fooding It

The Kuro-Bō 100% natural water filter was one of those products that caught my attention from the day I came across one of their posts on Facebook. I have been looking at different water filter options at Dischem recently and never quite found the product I was whiling to spend money on.

Having new health goals for the year means that I am making an effort to drink LOTS more water, tap water that we are assuming is perfectly safe.

Staying in the Upper Highway area where our air has been a concern over the last few years, means that I am not too convinced that the tap water that we are receiving is as “drinkable” as we might assume.

Kuro-Bō came to the rescue kindly offering me one of their activated charcoal sticks. These sticks are created through an ancient Japanese technique, leaving the charcoal highly porous which then becomes a natural filter. When left in tap water this charcoal absorbs and removes toxins such as lead, aluminium, copper, iron, chlorine, mercury and manganese. The water is additionally enriched with minerals such as magnesium and calcium. Win win situation if you ask me.

Some fun facts:

  • 100% natural, eco-friendly and easy to use
  • It’s reusable, recyclable and contains NO PLASTIC
  • Can be reused for up to 3 months
  • All packaging is fully biodegradable
  • Neutralises pH
  • Made from naturally carbonised wood thats been carefully harvested

The taste is what I looked forward to the most. I just couldn’t wait to see if there was in fact a different taste after being filtered. There is no real way of explaining the actual taste, all I know is that it’s luxuriously soft and gentle. That has to be good, right?!

Cost:

  • 1X regular stick is R215
  • 2X regular sticks R400
  • 4X (plus one free) R860
  • They also sell a beautiful 100% recycled, hand-blown glass carafe for R850 (see here)

About KURO-Bō Activated Charcoal

Centuries ago, artisans in the Japanese region of Wakayama, perfected the art of creating Binchōtan – a unique activated charcoal. Involving a meticulous production process, Binchotan is still highly prized today across the US, Europe and Asia as a highly effective air and water purifier, as well as a clean burning, high temperature fuel for cooking and an organic soil enricher.

Faithful to the ancient Japanese process, KURO-Bō Activated Charcoal is derived from sustainably-sourced, high quality hardwood which is baked in a special kiln, and then hand-cut. Unlike other water purification systems, KURO-Bō Activated Charcoal does not aggressively strip the water, removing both the good with the bad. Tests have shown that the charcoal significantly reduces levels of lead, copper, mercury, iron, aluminium, manganese and all traces of chlorine from tap water. At the same time, it uniquely and naturally enriches the water with beneficial minerals, that other leading filtration systems remove entirely.
